IBM TotalStorage SAN檔系統提供了一個專為存儲網路設計的公共檔系統，它可以幫助公

料是指關於檔的總體資訊，如檔位置、安全許可和是否被鎖定。在很多傳統的檔系統中，元
資料存放在單個的伺服器上，從而限制了跨伺服器或跨檔系統實現資料共用和訪問。SAN檔系
統的設計使用了一個元資料伺服器來管理存儲網路中的元資料（而不是在個體應用伺服器的
內部管理元資料），因而能夠幫助將相關資訊從個體伺服器轉移到存儲網路之中，這樣網路
中的任何應用伺服器都將可以獲得這些資訊。SAN檔系統客戶機軟體運行在應用伺服器上，
